Can you tell at a glance what type of GoldMine information is in your report?
MasterMine gives you a number of important visual cues to help you get oriented inside a report. This can also help you pick through several reports quickly to determine if you have “the right one”.
Most importantly, field colors tell you a lot about what you’re looking at. All fields are color-coded according to which table the came from in GoldMine. Most reports include Blue (Contact1) fields, as these are the most basic contact-level fields, and they figure into most reports at some level. Other tables’ color codes are as follows:
Blue – Contact1 (C1) – Main Contact table
Red – Contact2 (C2) – User-defined Contact fields

Did you know that MasterMine adds new fields from time to time that can be very useful in managing your GoldMine database? GoldMine’s data structure itself rarely changes, but we are constantly adding features to MasterMine, often in response to user requests.
Here are a few examples (see more in Appendix F of the MasterMine user manual).
C1.PrimaryEmail Merge, C1.EmailRecId:
This is the merge codes field from primary e-mail. Managing this field, especially using MMUpdater, is a key to good management of e-mail marketing activity. The record ID of the e-mail address record is necessary for MMUpdater work with e-mail addresses. Read More→
The easiest way to do this is to simply re-run the report, placing check marks on the desired fields. Many people don’t think to do this because they don’t realize how quick and easy it is to create a report using MasterMine, or because someone else generated the report originally and they just “share” it, and may not be familiar with the fields included.
However, sometimes you’ve done so much work with a report that you’re not confident you can recreate it quickly. For these situations, there’s MSQuery–MS Excel’s back-end query management tool. Full instructions for using MSQuery for this purpose are in Chapter 10 of MasterMine’s user manual. One of the best time-savers in GoldMine is the ability to e-mail by group or filter to segments of your database. To fine-tune your lists, GoldMine has an “e-mail merge codes” field associated with every e-mail address. However, the “E-mail Merge codes” field can be difficult to manage across the whole database, because it doesn’t actually appear on the front screen in GoldMine.
